Your data rights

When you use Bankrate to compare rates, your personal information stays with us. It only reaches a lender, bank, or partner when you choose to request a quote or submit an application. We don’t sell your data or pass it along without a clear action on your part.

Beyond that built-in control, privacy laws in California and a growing number of other states give you formal rights over the data we hold. You can see it, correct it, delete it, or restrict how we use it — and you can opt out of the use of your data for targeted advertising entirely.

What you can request

• Access — get a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction — ask us to fix inaccurate personal information
• Deletion — ask us to delete your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions
• Opt-out of sale or sharing — stop your data from being used for targeted advertising or sold to third parties
• Limit use of sensitive data — restrict processing of sensitive personal information to only what’s strictly necessary

Global Privacy Control

We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser or device sends a GPC signal, we treat it as an opt-out of the sale and sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising — no separate form submission required.

Response timeframe and appeals

We’ll acknowledge your request within 10 business days and respond within 45 calendar days. If we need more time, we’ll let you know. If your request is denied, we will explain why and, where applicable law provides it, outline your right to appeal our decision.

Authorized agents

California residents may designate an authorized agent to submit requests on their behalf. We may require written authorization or other verification before acting on an agent’s request.
